Improving Access to Data
A Progress Note from "Capacity building and data" workstream
At present, Asset Owners (AOs) typically have a low to mid-single digit allocation to EMDE public markets, with minimal or zero allocation to EMDE private markets. To meet the climate finance gap requires far greater allocations across EMDE asset classes – public and private, debt and equity – which in turn will require a mix of more and better data and building AO capacity.
This paper provides a summary of the findings of the EMDE Investor Taskforce workstream relating to the availability, quality and accessibility of data in the work performed to date. So far, this has focused on determining the relevant asset classes in focus for EMDE investment, identifying the associated key data requirements, understanding the awareness and use of existing datasets (and the inherent gaps), and to identify the platforms most commonly used to extract and analyse data.
The next phases of our work in 2026 will seek to identify implementable measures that can improve the awareness, accessibility, quantity, quality of data and mechanisms to collect and distribute it.
